About The Memorial

The purpose of this website is to promote the Vietnam Veterans Memorial fundraising picnic that is to take place April 5th 2008 (Rain date April 6th). The proceeds of this event will assist the committee in Coventry with the building and any other expenses incurred for construction and memorial ceremonies. The ceremonies may be either tied to the dedication or any future Memorial Day or Veterans Day event deemed necessary by the committee. 100% of any donations or money raised during the picnic will be donated for this cause. This website is still under construction. Details of how to donate and pre-register will be available shortly.

Until now, Connecticut did not have a memorial commemorating the 612 soldiers who gave their lives in the Vietnam War, but with the help of our sponsors and this fundraiser, we hope to complete the memorial project. By doing this we hope to honor those brave men and women from Connecticut.

The fundraiser will be held in Deep River, CT at Devitt’s Field beginning at 12:00 Noon until 6:00 P.M. Bikes are Welcome!

The events of the picnic will include a fun-filled day beginning with a “Blessing Of The Bikes” for our motorcycle community by the Beacon Riders (Dave Taylor) Christian Motorcycle Association. Raffles, live music, food, and a chance for everyone to meet many of those brave servicemen who served in Vietnam. There will be plenty of parking for bikes and cars. All are welcome.

If you would like to help we could use sponsors, raffle prizes, food donations, and volunteers to make this a fun and sucessful event. Your contribution and support will help make this a reality. On behalf of the Veterans Memorial Picnic Committee in Deep River we thank you for your support. You can contact Joe DiPietro at 860-983-5021.

Our sincerest thanks to all who helped in Coventry to make the CT 612 Vietnam Veterans Memorial a reality. Especially to Jean Risley who spear-headed this memorial project. Jean is the sister of Robert A. Tillquist who died in Vietnam.
